Michigan State (39th appearance at Notre Dame), USC (36th - all at Notre Dame Stadium)
and Navy (30th, with the first of those being the dedication game for Notre Dame Stadium
in 1930)all last played at Notre Dame in 2005.
Georgia Tech will be making its first trip to South Bend since 1997 (when it played in
the dedication game of the expanded Notre Dame Stadium) and its 18th visit to South Bend
overall.
Boston College will be playing at Notre Dame Stadium for the first time since 2004 -- and
its 10th time overall. The series took a two year hiatus. Players from the 2004 team will
have plenty of motivation heading into that game after the Eagles took chunks of field
with them after the 2004 game.
Air Force has made 13 previous trips to Notre Dame
Stadium - the first in 1969 and the last in 2000. Duke has played two previous times in
Notre Dame Stadium, 1958 and 1966.
Four of the '07 visitors to Notre Dame Stadium played in postseason bowl games following
the 2006 season - Georgia Tech (Gator Bowl), Boston College (won Meineke Car Care Bowl),
USC (won Rose Bowl) and Navy (Meineke Car Care Bowl). Road opponents who played in bowl
games a year ago include Penn State (won Outback Bowl), Michigan (Rose Bowl), Purdue
(Champs Sports Bowl) and UCLA (Emerald Bowl).
Overall, seven of Notre Dame's first eight opponents in '07 played in bowl games
last season.
